At Caspian Residences, some of the best moments of the day begin just steps from home with coffee in hand along the Oakland waterfront. Located at 265 9th Avenue directly across from the historic 9th Avenue Terminal Building at Brooklyn Basin, Zocalo Coffee and Kitchen has quickly become a neighborhood favorite—a bright, modern café where mornings move at your own pace. Whether grabbing breakfast before hopping aboard the FREE Brooklyn Basin shuttle nearby, catching up on work over coffee with free WiFi, or lingering over brunch after a waterfront walk through Township Commons Park, Zocalo feels woven into the fabric of everyday life at Brooklyn Basin.

Open seven days a week, the airy café is filled with natural light from towering walls of glass and offers ample indoor-outdoor seating perfect for everything from solo grab and go to casual neighborhood meetups. The menu balances specialty espresso drinks with elevated breakfast and brunch fare. Regulars know the top espresso orders by heart: the rich Creme Brûlée Latte, bold Mexican Mocha, and smooth Nitro Cold Brew. Favorite breakfast items include the Avocado Toast, Bacon Burrito, and Mushroom Galette, all served in a scenic setting just moments from Oakland’s shoreline.

Behind the counter, Zocalo’s team at Brooklyn Basin brings warmth and personality that make the café feel like an extension of the neighborhood itself. Kitchen Manager Julio starts the day with a 16oz Vanilla Latte and Butter Croissant, while Area Manager Olga prefers a double espresso paired with a delicate canelé. Barista Naima recommends the beloved Creme Brûlée Latte with the Oranis—an apricot pastry cream croissant—while Baker Daniela D goes for an Iced Matcha Latte and extra crispy Bacon Burrito. Barista Daniela R keeps it classic with an Iced Americano and Mushroom Galette, and Shift Lead Jasmine’s favorite pairing is an Iced Honey Latte alongside the signature Bacon Burrito.
For Zocalo Coffee and Kitchen, Brooklyn Basin has also become something much bigger than a café location. “Our Brooklyn Basin Cafe became our production flagship store, allowing us to experiment with new channels,” shares Area Manager Olga. “For example, we created a bakery program that now allows us to provide Oakland-made pastries to our cafes and train our cooks in a new trade: baking.” She adds, “We are a women-run roastery. Brooklyn Basin has opened the door for us to explore in-house baking and create sustainable food items which we now produce for all our cafes from there.”

Today, the café serves as both a community gathering space and a creative culinary hub—one more reason future Caspian homeowners can look forward to living in a neighborhood where local businesses, friendly faces, and waterfront lifestyle all come together naturally.
